Abstract
Fishermen are one of the professions indispensable in Indonesia to meet daily fish consumption which tends to increase every year. One of the problems faced is that the younger generation who live in coastal areas tend to be less concerned about getting deeper into the realm of the fisheries and marine industries, either as fishermen or as stakeholders who can help various professions at sea. The purpose of this study was to see how far the relationship between adolescent self-identification in fishermen groups and the intensity of going to the beach on the self-esteem of adolescents living in coastal areas. The research method used is a quantitative method with statistical analysis Kendall-tau correlation. The study participants were 30 participants aged 19-25 years who lived in coastal areas or upstream large rivers for at least 6 months. The results showed that identification to the fishermen group was positively related to the intensity to shore. However, these two variables do not have a significant relationship to the self-esteem of coastal adolescents. This can be evidence that coastal adolescents in this study tend to be less concerned about the fishing profession. Future research is expected to help strengthen adolescent self-esteem towards the fishing profession. Among them can be by increasing job satisfaction and reducing stress in the fishing profession.
