Abstract The focus and goal of this study was to determine themes and research methods used by the students of Bachelor (S1) and Master (S2) Science Communication in thesis writing and thesis at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences Universitas Hasanuddin in the last 5 years (2007-2011) . Results of this study indicate that both strata (S1 and S2) in the selection of themes or issues that seem to both have almost the same trend, ie quite varied and relevant issues raised by the concentration of their chosen field of study, ie, the issue tends to S1 film and television, marketing, internal public, interpersonal communication, while the S2 students tend to be on the issue of ethics and mass media legislation, political campaigns and candidates imaging, instructional media, and media effects and public opinion.
