This historical interpretation arises in connection with, on the one hand, the opinion that Indonesiacentrism is centered on Indonesia's interests, and on the other hand, it is thought to give rise to a lack of awareness of the development of historiography in other regions, both in local and regional contexts. Questions arise, including: first, how to interpret the understanding of Indonesian centrism in the context of historiography in global dynamics. Second, why does controversy arise between these interpretations, which seem to contrast one with the other? Third, how to position the understanding of Indonesian centrism in the context of the development of historiography, which is capable of developing not only local and national history studies but also regional history studies? In discussing this issue, efforts will be made to gain a better understanding of Indonesian historiography, which can strengthen Indonesianness itself without reducing the presence of dynamics in the local area and other regional areas.
I Ketut Ardhana, Ni Wayan Radita Novi Puspitasari Copyright (c) 2024 I Ketut Ardhana, Ni Wayan Radita Novi Puspitasari https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33013 Fri, 10 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Jalur Kereta Api dan Perkembangan Kota Lumajang Pada Masa Kolonial Hindia Belanda, 1893-1942 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33025
This research aims to examine the changes in the Afdeeling Lumajang area from a traditional city to a modern city marked by the construction of the Klakah-Pasirian railway line, which was intended as a means of transportation for goods and passengers. Historical methods are used to explain this study. The research results show that the development of the Afdeeling Lumajang area into a modern city was initially influenced by the development of railway transportation facilities for plantation purposes and passenger transportation from inland areas. The Klakah-Pasirian Railway began operating on May 16, 1896, with a train track length of 36 km using the standard rail width used in the Dutch East Indies, namely 1,067 mm. There are nine stops and stations on the Klakah-Pasirian railway line, consisting of Klakah Station, Grobogan Stop, Sukodono Stop, Lumajang Station, Labruk Stop, Tempeh Stop, Mujur Stop, Condro Stop, and Pasirian Station.
Aldilla Dinda Yuniarta, Akhmad Ryan Pratama, Kayan Swastika Copyright (c) 2024 Aldilla Dinda Yuniarta, Akhmad Ryan Pratama, Kayan Swastika https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33025 Fri, 10 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Islam dan Gerakan Sosial: Studi atas Resistensi Guru Tarekat Menghadapi Pemerintah Hindia Belanda di Jawa Timur pada Akhir Abad XIX-Awal Abad XX https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33011
This article proves several findings related to the crisis period involving the lives of teachers and religious practitioners in Java from the 19th to early 20th centuries. Even though their perspective on life is usually not concerned with world affairs, it is known that several Tariqa or Sufi teachers led social movements against the Dutch East Indies government. Of course, this was an anomaly, considering that usually the Company's enemies or people who the Company suspected from among Muslim religious leaders were kiai or hajjis. Tariqa teachers have a different identity from the two. Through social history research, by looking back at several records and reports left by the Dutch East Indies government, new information can be obtained about the involvement of this esoteric group in the arena of resistance against colonialists. Using historical research methods, several findings were obtained regarding the role of tariqa teachers in that period, especially in their efforts to build anti-colonial networks in East Java.
Johan Wahyudhi Copyright (c) 2024 Johan Wahyudhi https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33011 Fri, 10 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Kekeringan: Kelangkaan Pangan dan Kriminalitas di Lamongan, 1892-1940 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33023
This paper aims to explain the natural disaster of drought which influenced the decline in the economy and high crime in Lamongan. This paper uses historical research methods which include the stages of topic selection, heuristics, verification, interpretation, and historiography by paying attention to the focus of the study on urban issues, especially environmental and social history. Based on research results, it is known that the drought in Lamongan was caused by climate anomalies and erratic climate change. This drought has had various impacts, ranging from a lack of water supply for agriculture, scarcity of food to the rise of crime such as theft. The efforts to overcome drought were carried out by the colonial government with the cooperation of local residents, such as carrying out repairs to reservoirs, holding prayer events, and joint celebrations to ask God for help. Even though this drought disaster cannot be avoided, its impact can be minimized with mitigation efforts.
Alfin Ganendra Albar, Anggy Fitri Darmayanti Copyright (c) 2024 Alfin Ganendra Albar, Anggy Fitri Darmayanti https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33023 Fri, 10 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Refleksi Eksistensi Petani dalam Panggung Sejarah Indonesia https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33010
This article raises issues related to the overall exploitation of farmers in various regions in Indonesia. This paper uses historical methods. The existence of farmers was underestimated because they were merely extras, or more precisely, material for Dutch and Japanese colonial exploitation, both for economic and political interests. This fate then suddenly changed because farmers had joined political party groups and become organizations, such as Pertanu, STTI, BTI, and so on. Unfortunately, the euphoria to support the peasants did not run smoothly because there were clashes with civil society and with those who did not share the same ideology. The result is bloodshed between members of the nation; this is truly ironic. Until then, the New Order was born, and all forms of organizations related to farmers were communized.
Yandi Syaputra Hasibuan, Arkini Sabrina Copyright (c) 2024 Yandi Syaputra Hasibuan, Arkini Sabrina https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33010 Sat, 11 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Pemikiran Sartono Kartodirdjo Tentang Sejarah Perkotaan https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33012
This article explores Sartono Kartodirdjo's views regarding urban studies in Indonesia, especially his opinions regarding cities. This paper was written using library research methods. The library material used as a reference for this writing is various literature by Sartono Kartodirdjo which reflects his thoughts, especially those that discuss urban areas. Sartono showed sufficient enthusiasm in seeing the city as a historical study unit, positioning the city as a center of modernization. The main instruments of modernization in urban areas are means of communication, education, and newspapers or mass media. Modernization in urban areas has brought Indonesia towards the door of independence due to the emergence of a new awareness among the educated elite in urban areas. In this way, cities contribute and play an important role in Indonesian history, at least from Sartono Kartodirdjo's academic perspective.
Purnawan Basundoro Copyright (c) 2024 Purnawan Basundoro https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33012 Fri, 10 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Konflik Perebutan Lahan Kereta Api: Dilema Penguasaan Aset Negara Pasca Nasionalisasi https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33016
This research explains the conflict over railway land and the dilemma of controlling state assets after nationalization. The research results show that there is a gap in understanding between the state and society regarding the history of land ownership. There is a perception that if land has been used for more than a few years, it can be transferred to individual ownership. In several cases, in big cities such as Medan, Bandung, and Jakarta, there is a tendency to involve the business interests of certain individuals or communities with strong capital. This indicates that in the case of the second classification, the state is challenged by capitalist forces with a pure profit orientation, while the public interest and public social services tend to be ignored. The emergence and strengthening of regional institutions as a result of growing autonomy in government also has the potential for conflicts of interest with PT. KAI regarding ownership of its assets. In this case, it is not surprising that a dispute involving the two of them becomes a conflict of interest between the central and regional governments.
Waskito Widi Wardojo Copyright (c) 2024 Waskito Widi Wardojo https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33016 Fri, 10 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 Eksil Banten dan Terbentuknya Komunitas Muslim di Minahasa Abad XIX https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33075
This article discusses the socio-cultural life and development of the exiled Muslim community from Banten in the Minahasa Residency, which was a location for exile in line with the Dutch colonial government's policy of placing exiles from Banten in the Manado (Minahasa) Residency throughout the 19th century. The historical method used in this research is by using the 19th century Colonial Archives stored in the National Archives of the Republic of Indonesia, travel reports, and local sources, especially manuscripts kept by their descendants in Tomohon and Minahasa. The findings in this research are: First, who are the figures from Banten who were exiled in Minahasa. Second, the reason Minahasa was chosen as the location of exile for the Dutch Colonial Government. Third, the form of adaptation carried out by the exiled community in Sarongsong village, Minahasa, Java. fourth, what is the relationship between Islam and Christianity after the arrival of exiles from Banten in Manado and Minahasa.
Roger Allan Christian Kembuan Copyright (c) 2024 Roger Allan Christian Kembuan https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33075 Fri, 10 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000 PENGGUNAAN HISTORIOGRAFI TRADISIONAL JAWA UNTUK PENULISAN SEJARAH: Studi tentang Pengasingan Sunan Paku Buwana VI ke Ambon, 1830-1849 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33024
This article explains the use of Javanese traditional historiography proposed by Sartono Kartodirdjo. This article was prepared using the literature study method. The literature used is in the form of undergraduate theses, dissertations, and books prepared using and discussing Javanese traditional historiography. Overall, the chronicle about the exile of Sunan Paku Buwana VI in Ambon has a historical picture. The strength of this text as a historical source lies in its description of the mental turmoil and experiences of a king who was removed from his throne and had to live in exile. The existence of candra sengkala written following important events described in the chronicles further proves that these chronicles contain strong historical elements. In addition, as a historical source, the chronicle about Sunan Paku Buwana VI's exile contains important material not found in colonial archives.
Dhanang Respati Puguh Copyright (c) 2024 Dhanang Respati Puguh https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/4.0 https://journal-old.unhas.ac.id/index.php/jsi/article/view/33024 Sat, 25 May 2024 00:00:00 +0000
